Biodegradability is the ability of a molecule to be degraded by action of biological organisms. The different methodologies to test the biodegradability of a sample should be accurate and reproducible. The most known and accepted methodology for lubricant applications is the OECD 301 methods, which allows the screening of molecules for ready biodegradability in an aerobic or anaerobic aqueous medium. Lubricant community and official organisms consider that a biodegradable lubricant must reach more than 60% degradation within a period of 28 days.

Most of the IQLubricants product portfolio is biodegradable and an important number of products are readily biodegradable.

A Renewable resource is a substance that can be replaced or replenished in less time than it takes to draw the supply down. In other words, it is the percentage of renewable carbons coming from vegetable sources within a specific molecule. In 2019, more than 67% of the raw materials processed in IQL manufacturing site came from vegetable origin.

IQLubricants business is committed to basing its innovation on the development of high-performance products with maximum biodegradability and renewable content. In addition, IQL attempts to implement products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use of substances hazardous to human health or the environment.
