Four stroke engine industry has very strict requirements and it is continuously in development looking for improving fuel economy, reducing emissions, expanding engine oil life and low temperature fluidity. In order to meet these requirements, it is very important to have an optimal lubrication and performance retention over extended periods of time.

Esters are used as fully formulated base fluids and as a co-base fluids with Group III or IV base oils to give the desired viscometric profile and meet volatility requirements.

Esters have better viscosity index than the rest of base oils (MO or PAO) which in turn result in a better performance at high temperature but also high performance at low temperatures.

Esters help to better dissolve additive packages and allow gaining them onto the surface. For this reason and due to lubricity performance, lower percentage of antiwear and EP additives are needed.
